One problem: your “contact” form is screwed up. It requires 4 fields, but there are only 3 text-entry boxes to type anything into, so there’s no way to contact you (because it keeps insisting you haven’t filled out the form properly), other than to leave a comment such as this.

Wow, I think you need to meet this girl’s parents. Why are they forcing her to listen to Elvis!? Still, it’s a classic. I own the same cd myself because sometimes, well, it’s just the right thing. So I don’t know. I suspect it is Abby Normal for an 8-year-old to have a 50s party, but maybe what this suggests is there is no normal anymore. There are so many media outlets and so many choices that the idea of some sort of monoculture for each generation, something “we” (people of a certain age) all share, is breaking down. Hmmm. Much more wild and baseless speculation is required!

I had to buy a birthday gift for one of my daughter’s classmates last weekend. As is typical, I asked my daughter what her friend liked, such as Barbies or whatever, and we concluded that a cd would be a big hit - all these elementary school kids have ipods, etc. The birthday party had a 50’s theme, believe it or not, which is very strange when these kids were born in 1999 or 2000. Anyway, I figured, well, it’s a 50’s theme…so I got her an Elvis cd of his #1 hits. My daughter has never heard of Elvis, so she was strongly disapproving of this choice. She wanted me to get the High School Mucical 3 cd (I actually bought both…at Sam’s Club…a bit cheaper). Anyway, the girl LOVED the Elvis cd. So should I conclude that my daughter’s musical/cultural development is being stunted because we haven’t thrust the music of by-gone eras upon her? Or is it just Abby Normal for an 8-year-old to host a 50’s-themed party and love Elvis?

Yeah, my decision does not seem exactly wise economically, even less so the longer I go without a job. On the bright side, I’m finding some good volunteer opportunities. One is to help out at PD Stuff, but the others should have me back in the jail doing what I can for the peeps until I get a license. Meanwhile, I’m just a blogging geek. What can I say?

You lived in God’s country. You did God’s work as a PD - and I might add, you did a hell of a job at the God’s work you did. You made more than the median income for where you lived; your cost of living was minimal comparatively. And you’re bitching about whether or not Public Defender Stuff is still blogging? Actually, I’m surprised that hasn’t happened yet. I was in a bar in San Diego and the 20-somethings were very enthusiastically screaming along with “Livin’ On A Prayer.” WHOOOAAAHHH! They also love Journey. So.

There are usually open PD spots in Wyoming–and they pay the same as the AG’s office. Of course, you’re already familiar with the travails of the area. I can’t imagine that you’d be happy anywhere but in Laramie or Cheyenne (maybe Jackson, but the cost of living creates problems).

What I can tell you is that despite the dedication of the criminal defense bar, our state can always use more great defense lawyers, and I believe that you fit the bill.

What a great night! WOW! I’ve never been as proud to be an American as tonight. I just can’t believe it.

Thanks so much for your work by the way. I and so many more who couldn’t get out to do what you did appreciate your doing it. Who knew unemployment would pay off so big eh?
