What I have found helps me is going to the jail on Saturday mornings, especially when it is my first time meeting clients. Several reasons:

1. I don't have time during the week.
2. First thing in the morning I usually wake my clients up so they are groggy and don't have a ton to say.
3. It gives me street cred in there for taking the time to go on a weekend.
4. They serve chow at around 11 a.m., so I have the excuse of "I don't want you to miss your lunch, so let's cut this short."

Obviously, it sucks to spend weekend time there, but it gets the job done. Plus, once I get done at the jail, I usually have to go into the office to update files and make whatever phone calls my clients ask me to. (I refuse to make any work-related calls from my cell phone.)

Wow. Haven't had any jail dreams yet.

PDWannabe is right. Inmates LOVE attorney contact, but.. I've found that a lot can be accomplished by sending / receiving letters. I ALWAYS respond to my jail mail and it cuts down on a lot of unnecessary visits to the jail. Also, I usually send discovery and / or an offer and then follow up with a visit a few days later. It gives them a few days to absorb everything before they have to make a decision.

I'm not an attorney yet... but have spoken with a lot of inmates and do know that they like a lot of attorney contact. Perhaps you can accomplish the same by cutting your trips in half and adding more client phone calls.

P.S. I hope your dog heals soon.
