I finished the Harry Potter on Wednesday, but have had no time to post since then. And really, what’s to say? It was a really fun read, and a nice end to a terrific series, but beyond that anything I might say could end up making someone mad or spoiling it for others. That won’t stop me from saying more, but later. On L’s recommendation, I’ve started The Road by Cormac McCarthy, which is not exactly light summer reading, and about a 180-degree change in style/tone/subject from Harry Potter. If posting here is dismal and detached and depressing in tone in the next week or two, blame McCarthy.
Eh, The Road was a good read but it’s not the kind I’d recommend to anyone. Bleak bleaker, and bleakest.
I second care. Man, it took me a couple days to get out of the funk that book put me in. Quick read though.
Yeah, not exactly the cheeriest novel. Or, quite frankly, his best. I would recommend All the Pretty Horses, which is one of the most amazing books I’ve ever put eyes to, or either Suttree or Blood Meridian. The last one is a particularly brutal book but a nice twist on the Western mythos.
