You know you’re in small-town America when…

  1. You go to the coffee shop and some guy gets a phone call and goes outside to talk, leaving his 15″ Powerbook and assorted peripherals just sitting on the table unwatched and unattended for approximately 10 minutes.
  2. In the same coffee shop, dad buys daughter (approximately 7 years old) a hot chocolate and a muffin, sits the girl down to eat/drink, then goes next door to the liquor store to make a purchase, leaving his child all alone for at least five minutes.

These things would never happen in a city, would they?

  1. Lyco,

Sigh. I’ve been feeling the city crunch being where I am (and you used to be). Scop got his car broken into, and a friend was robbed IN HIS OWN HOME at gunpoint. I wish I could find a nice environmental job in a small town…

  2. Becky,

The funny thing is that Montanans think Billings is the big city.

  3. karl,

I didn’t know we practiced in the community. Of course I am less than an hour from SoHo & suspect you aren’t (ok, if that hour is 8 a.m. on a Sunday morning with little traffic & decent weather, but ya can’t have everything.)

  4. I’ve done the first in Atlanta. But I always watch through the window.

The second, yes.. they would do it in the city. The leave their kids in the car while they go grocery shopping and then get prosecuted for it.
